After Jacob stole the blessing from Esau, he flees to his uncle Laban. On his way, God visits him in a wonderful dream including a ladder reaching to heaven, and James Meyers discusses how this points to Christ. He then discusses how Laban deceived Jacob into marrying Leah and how Jacob eventually flees from Laban. James concludes with the well known account of Jacob wrestling with God and discusses the sanctifying struggles of the Christian pilgrimage.

While Abraham’s faith was confirmed in being willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac, James Meyers considers the quiet but necessary faith Isaac must have had in that account as well. We discuss Abraham’s servant, Eliezer, traveling to Abraham’s home country to seek a wife for Isaac, much to his comfort while grieving his mother’s death. We conclude by briefly considering Isaac being deceived by his wife and younger son, Jacob.
